Inclusion through sport: young athletes take center stage at Palaluiss sports afternoon
Today marked the second event of InSport, a day dedicated to showcasing how sports can be a tool for including young people with disabilities.
(Rome, September 16, 2024) – The annual InSport event took place today at the PalaLuiss in Rome, organized by SuperJob in collaboration with CORE, Michael Page, and Luiss University, with support of the main partner Neopharmed Gentili.
20 young people with disabilities, supported by the associations Divertitempo Onlus and Mio Fratello è Figlio Unico Onlus, participated in a range of sports activities, led by coaches and assisted by athletes from Luiss Sport.
The goal of the day was to promote social inclusion through sports, creating moments of sharing and enjoyment in an environment specifically adapted to the needs of the participants. The children engaged in a sports circuit composed of eight stations, customized along the way to meet the individual needs of each child.
The initiative highlighted the need to create spaces for integration for young people with disabilities, using sports as a tool for personal and social growth. SuperJob, along with its partners, demonstrated once again how inclusion can drive change and awareness within the community.
The participating associations expressed great satisfaction with the event’s organization and effectiveness and emphasized the importance of continuing to promote projects that prioritize children with disabilities, offering opportunities for active participation and development of their abilities.
Luiss Sports Director Paolo Del Bene stated: “The event was an important opportunity to offer children with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum, a day of sports and play in a welcoming and stimulating environment. This edition, like last year’s, saw enthusiastic participation from the children, and through our staff’s efforts, we showed how crucial it is to create inclusive spaces through recreational sports.”
Gianluca Morelli, President of Divertitempo Onlus, said: “We firmly believe that sports are a winning ally for our children, helping to improve their self-esteem, empathy, and social skills. Through sports, they find engaging activities that teach them self-regulation, how to manage frustration, and how to respect teammates—skills that can positively impact their daily lives.”
Alessandro Carella, President of the cooperative Onlus Mio Fratello è Figlio Unico, remarked: “Sports are an excellent metaphor for life. You always have to put in passion and sacrifice, which our children do daily, even more than everyone else, to engage with everyday life. That’s why they deserve to experience sports just like everyone else.”
